A Welcome from Principal Barton

Welcome to Corbin Education Center!
I've had the privilege of calling Corbin Independent Schools home for 30 years, and it has truly been the journey of a lifetime. I'm a proud Corbin graduate myself, and I still live right here in Corbin with my husband of 28 years, who is also a fellow Corbin grad. There's something so special about raising your family in the same community that raised you — and being able to pass that Redhound pride down to the next generation.
Some of my proudest moments as a mom came from watching both of my sons walk across that same stage. They've since gone on to college and are now building their careers in Durham, North Carolina — but no matter how far they roam, they carry Corbin with them. That's the thing about this town and this school: once you're a Corbin graduate, it's part of who you are for life. The tradition runs deep, and the pride runs even deeper.
For the last 8 years, I've had the honor of serving as principal at CEC, and it's work I cherish every single day. Together, our team has celebrated so many accomplishments, most recently being named one of the Alternative Education Programs of Distinction — an honor that belongs to our incredible staff and, most importantly, to our students.
At CEC, our philosophy is every student, every day. We show up for each and every one of our students, no exceptions, no matter what they bring through our doors. And we carry a mindset of progress, not perfection — because we know growth doesn't always look the same for every student, and every step forward is worth celebrating. I truly believe our staff are the best in the state at helping students find their footing and reach their full potential, even in the midst of really challenging circumstances. It's not always easy work, but it is always meaningful work — and it's rooted in that same Corbin tradition of showing up for one another.
Thank you for trusting us with your child.
We're honored to be part of their story.
