The Redhound Service Award Work Ethic Winner, Travis Jones

Sometimes, work ethic is easy to recognize.

It is the person who doesn't wait to be told what needs to be done. The person who notices the details others might overlook. The person who takes pride in doing something well—not because someone is watching, but because it matters to them.

At Corbin High School, Travis Jones is that person.

Travis, a custodian at CHS, was recently recognized with the Redhound Way Service Award for Work Ethic during our Classified Appreciation Breakfast. The award celebrates classified employees who bring the traits of The Redhound Way to life through their daily work and service to others.

Travis consistently demonstrates excellent character, initiative, and a commitment to doing his very best. In fact, there is one word Travis often uses when he talks about his work:

Pride.

He takes pride in his work, and that pride is evident in the way he approaches each day. He is constantly looking for ways to improve, rarely has idle time, and doesn't shy away from a challenge. When he doesn't know something, he asks questions—not simply to get an answer, but because he wants to learn.

His work ethic also extends beyond what is expected of him.

Last summer, the Fourth of July holiday weekend was approaching. Travis knew that families and visitors might be on the CHS campus, and he wanted the school to look its best. So he asked if he could come in and mow.

It wasn't about being asked to do it.

He saw something that needed to be done, and he took care of it.

That simple example captures much of what makes Travis exceptional. He understands that the work he does contributes to something bigger than himself. A well-maintained school communicates pride in our students, our staff, and our community.

Travis is also a natural team player. When he sees a concern, he communicates it respectfully. When a teammate needs help, he steps in. He brings a positive attitude to his work and genuinely cares about the people he works alongside and the school he serves.

His example is a daily reminder of one of Corbin Independent Schools' enduring commitments: Striving to be our Best.

For Travis, excellence isn't something reserved for big moments. It is found in the everyday choices to work hard, take initiative, keep learning, help others, and take pride in the job you have been entrusted to do.

Head Custodian Darrell Helton summed it up simply: “It is a blessing to be able to lead such an excellent employee and to work alongside him each day.”

We couldn't agree more.

Travis Jones reminds us that when you take pride in your work, even the ordinary tasks become an opportunity to make your school—and the people in it—better.
