40 Minutes to the Finish Line

Forty minutes.
That was all the time Culinary 2 students at Corbin High School had to turn a plan into a finished meal—and they were ready for the challenge.
Under the direction of Mrs. Jessica Lester, students recently competed in the 2026 CHS Food Truck Competition, putting their culinary skills, teamwork, and work ethic to the test. Their task was simple in theory: plan, prepare, present, and clean up a full meal before time ran out.
In reality, there was a lot happening in those 40 minutes.
Students moved with purpose as they prepared their food truck recipes, working through each step of the process while keeping an eye on the clock. They had to stay organized, communicate with one another, solve problems as they arose, and maintain the quality of their food—all while knowing their finished product would be evaluated by a panel of judges.
And when the food was ready, the work wasn’t over.
Students presented their recipes to the judges and then turned their attention to the kitchen, making sure their workspaces were cleaned and ready to go.
From the first preparation to the final cleanup, these students demonstrated what Work Ethic looks like in action.
They Took Initiative by getting to work and owning their responsibilities. They Demonstrated Dependability by doing their part for their team. They Accepted Accountability for the quality of their work. And they proved they could Strive for Excellence even with a clock counting down.
Forty minutes. A full meal. A finished presentation. A clean kitchen.
That’s more than a competition.
That’s the Redhound Way.
