Corbin Independent School District strives to be the BEST school system we can be. Test scores and academic competitions consistently rank the district as one of the top districts in Kentucky. Our success comes from the excellent partnership among students, staff, parents, and community. The Corbin Independent School District has been serving the area for more than 100 years with rigorous academic standards and quality education. The district's expanding curriculum and extracurricular programs strive to continually meet the needs of all 2,400 students. --Corbin Independent School District ranked 3rd in the state on the 2007 Commonwealth Accountability Test (CATS)! -- South Elementary & Central Primary Schools ranked in the top 5% of state elementary schools on the 2007 CATS! --Corbin Middle School ranked 4th in the state on the 2007 CATS! --Corbin High School ranked in the top 7% of state high schools on the 2007 CATS! -- Corbin High School was named one of 25 "Model High Schools" in the country and the ONLY one from Kentucky in 2006! -- Corbin Independent School District places a high priority on the use of instructional technology. Desktop computers, wireless laptop computers, Promethean interactive whiteboards, projectors, and a video-conferencing center provide instructional tools throughout the district. All classrooms have computers with internet access and access to the Discovery Channel/KET video streaming Encyclomedia. -- Corbin School District's Communications Career Academy provides students with hands-on experience in the communications field. From print media and television newscasts to a 100-watt radio station (Redhound Radio WRHR 95.3 FM) and family movie theatre, the program is growing and evolving. Corbin High Learning Center – The Corbin High School “library” does not look like the normal library nor does it operate like one. This inviting media center contains the features and spaces normally found in a school library PLUS areas for a radio station, TV production room, video-conferencing room, small-group performance area, and the Redhound Café. The “Learning Center” provides students with distance learning programs, research and tutoring opportunities, meeting areas, TV production programs for Channel 18, and radio production programs for Redhound Radio 95.3 FM WRHR. The multi-media learning facility is open extended hours to serve students, staff, and the community. A special place, especially for students, is the after-school Redhound Café.- In May of 2008 Corbin Ind. Schools administered the MAP test to all 3rd grade students. This test is a nationally recognized norm-referenced test. Parents will be receiving the results of that test and an explanation page describing the test and how to interpret the scores. If you have any questions about this test or your child’s results please contact Brenda Hammons or Dave Cox at (606) 528-1303.
