In November of 2002, the Corbin Board of Education
approved a policy in support of teachers receiving National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification by providing
assistance, recognition, and compensation. Currently three teachers hold
NBPTS certification. The district hopes to have ten NBPTS teachers
certified by 2007!
The Corbin Board of Education supports teachers pursuing
national certification in the following ways:
-Establish and facilitate a District mentor cohort group
-Provide mentors to assist teachers with NBPTS portfolio development
-Provide up to two release days for portfolio development
-Contribute $100 toward application and fee costs
-Assist candidates in applying for the KDE Subsidiary Grants and Teachers'
National Certification Incentive Trust Fund
-Continue mentoring for 2nd year candidates
Teachers receiving NBPTS Certification are supported in the
following ways:
-Pay $500 supplement each year the certification is valid (10 years) above the
state approved supplement
-Pay at Rank I for teachers who have Rank II or Masters
-NBPTS Certified teachers have the opportunity to mentor other Corbin teachers
pursuing NBPTS Certification at $1000 per person, maximum of three per year.
