Corbin Preschool Center Programs:
Early Childhood Program
Infant/Toddler & Nursery School Ages: 6 weeks - 2 years
Our early childhood program utilizes the philosophy of the Creative
Curriculum. The mission is to enhance the quality of early childhood
services by offering practical, innovative, and developmentally appropriate
curriculum, assessment materials, parenting resources, as well as professional
development for staff.

Preschool Programs
Although the preschool programs
are diverse in teaching methods and curriculum, all preschool programs
at the Corbin Preschool Center have the common goal of providing young
children with a solid foundation academically, socially, and
emotionally. By addressing the whole child, a strong structure is
built for future learning and achievement. The Center offers three
tuition classes including Early Start, Breakthrough Preschool and
Montessori. KERA Preschool is a state funded
program in which children can attend free of charge for qualifying
families. Requirements for the program are explained in the
program descriptions listed below. All programs are guided by the
Kentucky Department of Education's Early Childhood Standards in order to
successfully prepare children for primary school.
---------------------

Early Start Preschool
Ages: +/- 3 years
Early Start Preschool utilizes
the curriculum entitled Let's Begin with the Letter People.
This is a nationally researched, comprehensive program with a strong
emphasis on oral language, written symbols and phonemic awareness.
Teaching staff have also been trained in the Creative Curriculum
to provide a sound early childhood framework. There is also a
major emphasis on social development including self-awareness,
relationships with others, and conflict resolution.
-------------------
Breakthrough Preschool
Ages: +/- 4 years
Breakthrough Preschool is a
traditional program similar to what a child will experience in
Kindergarten. The program utilizes the Let's Begin
curriculum that is expanded upon from Early Start. Breakthrough to
Literacy is another curriculum used in the program which has an
individualized computer session for each child every day which
reinforces concepts used in large and small groups throughout the day.

Montessori
Ages: 3-6 years
The Montessori method is
founded in the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. Many of her once
radical ideas -- including the notion that children learn through
hands-on activities, that the preschool years are a time of critical
brain development, and that parents should be part of their child's
education -- are now accepted wisdom.
Key components of the
Montessori method are that learning occurs naturally through the senses
and students learn by manipulating materials and interacting with
others. The physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs and
interests of the child are all valued and considered equally important.
Respect and caring for others and the environment are vital components
of Dr. Montessori's teaching.
One of the outstanding features
of this program is that learning is individualized and the child is met
where they are and guided forward. The method, by nature,
differentiates instruction. The ultimate goal of Montessori
education is to foster competent, responsible citizens who are lifelong
learners and problem solvers. Our Montessori program is designed
as a three year program which includes the Kindergarten year.
Morning and afternoon sessions are available.

KERA Preschool
Ages: 3-4 years
The KERA Preschool
program also utilizes the Let's Begin curriculum and
Breakthrough to Literacy. KERA is a state funded preschool
program enacted to provide free preschool services to children who are
four years of age by October 1st and also qualify for free lunch status.
Children who are three years of age may also qualify due to a
developmental delay or disability regardless of family income.
The program is developmentally
appropriate and follows the Kentucky Department of Education's Early
Childhood Standards. Morning and afternoon sessions are available.
Transportation is also provided to and from preschool.
