History of Corbin

The Corbin Independent School District, incorporated in 1902, upholds its mission of striving to be the best school system it can possibly be by maintaining a tradition of high academics, student success and ever-expanding extracurricular programs. Ranking as one of the larger Independent School Districts in the state, Corbin continues to increase its student population each year, approaching 2,700 students in 2011-2012, from preschool to 12th grade. Corbin students consistently achieve high scores in the Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT, formerly CATS), ranking among the top 10 in the state for the past five years. All schools have met or exceeded their testing goals.

Schools within Corbin Independent Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for their continued academic achievement. Corbin High School was recently named a Pacesetter School by High Schools That Work (HSTW), CHS was also named a National Model School in 2006 by HSTW – the first school in Kentucky to be awarded that distinction. Many of our teachers, staff and programs have been recognized this year for their achievements in education.
