Mr. McNeel-This years KEDC Outstanding Superintendent

Corbin Schools benefit from McNeel’s vision

Ed McNeel is a Visionary. His vision for Corbin Independent Schools has helped to make the district the success it is today. Under McNeel’s administration, the district enrollment has increased steadily over the years and has maintained academic excellence in the process of growth. After the most recently KCCT scores were released, Corbin Independent ranked second among all Kentucky
schools.

“Mr. McNeel is a true visionary and leader inspiring all of us, including the board
members, administrators, educators, and students, to be the best we can be!” Board Chair Lisa Cleary said. Through his vision, buildings in the district have had additions built, upgrades made, and a new building built. Two years ago, a state of the art primary was opened housing more than 600 students grades K-2.
Currently, the high school is undergoing an extensive addition and reconstruction to accommodate the growing student population.

"Mr. McNeel has the vision to understand how environment of the school building impacts learning. He finds ways to make the physical plant exert a positive influence on the student's ability to learn.,” board member Kim Croley said.

McNeel feels that facilities are very important and has worked toward making the
seven facilities the best they can be for the staff, students and community.

“Mr. McNeel realizes that educational opportunities drive economic possibilities, and that a region's economic progress directly impacts education. Corbin's success is a reflection of Mr. McNeel's commitment that every student should
have the opportunity to learn that education is not static, but a life-long process toward becoming one's best self ,” board member Lynne Huff said.

McNeel is in his 46th year in education, and continues to carry forward the mottoof the district: Striving to be the BEST.

“Mr. McNeel has a great blend of superb people skills, leadership ability and knowledge of school issues. He makes wise decisions guided by a strong moral compass. I have been thoroughly impressed with his handling of all issues, big and small; his strong work ethic; and his compassion for always striving to make
our school system the best that it can be. I cannot imagine a more deserving
person for the Outstanding Superintendent Award,” board member Todd Childers said.

In striving to be the BEST, McNeel realizes that technology is a very important part of the education process. Nearly 100 percent of classrooms have Promethean or Smart Boards, all classrooms are equipped with surround
sound and projectors.

“Mr. McNeel's leadership truly embraces Corbin's mission statement, "striving to be the best we can be". He constantly challenges himself and others to always keep moving forward and not be satisfied with passed successes. He believes
that programs and schools must focus on student's changing needs and how to
prepare them for success not only in school but in life,” Assistant Superintendent Brenda Hammons said.
